Many genres, styles, and workspaces in the music industry have kept Alfonsina Torrealba quite busy, which makes sense for a professional with a long trajectory, but it is unusual for a woman under 35 years old. Torrealba is an Orchestral and Choir Conductor, singer, and a flute player with a Master's degree in Conducting. In addition, she is a music teacher, working from small amateur spaces to reckoned Universities, from public places in Chile to highly specialized places in Madrid, Spain. This variety of experiences is also translated into her music genres, from classical and folkloric, choral fusion, and religious and jazz.
Nowadays, Alfonsina lives in Valencia, Spain, a city full of music, closely collaborating as a conductor at Berklee College of Music. Always focused on rescuing Chilean's music heritage, she wrote the book "Canto al Programa: Mirada para el Chile de Hoy", writes for "Las vueltas del Run-Run" Podcast, and is the co-founder of TorreMar Music Studio.
Currently, she is the Manager and the Associate Conductor at the JOsM in Madrid, but also has been invited to conduct the Symphonic Band Inspirations, and conducted the soundtrack of the 2022's film "Eloisa Diaz: Ciencia Urgente". Her contributions to Youth Orchestras in Chile had made her a valuable member of these communities, where the music is highly acknowledged for its value to society.
She was born in Santiago de Chile. She completed her studies at the National Conservatory in Santiago de Chile, thanks to the scholarship of academic excellence awarded by the Chilean government. She continued her conduction training with the disciple of Juan Pablo Izquierdo, assistant conductor of Leonard Bernstein in New York. In addition, she studied flute with Roberto Cisternas, professor at the chilean conservatory and with Jaime Vásquez, reckoned performer in the Jazz chilean circuit.
She continued studying with national and international conductors such as the American David Handel, the Spanish Iñigo Pirfano and the Chilean Eduardo Browne. She finished her degree in orchestral conduction master degree at Alfonso X El Sabio University (Spain), with the professors Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado, thanks to “Chile Crea” scholarship by the Chilean Ministry of Arts and Culture, to finish the Master degree in Orchestral conducting due to her academic aquintments and projection on the field.
Alfonsina has also been under the teaching of Dr. Kaitlin Bove (USA), Dr. Mariana Farah (USA), Dr. Carolyn Watson (USA), Rodolfo Saglimbeni (Venezuela), Dominic Grier (UK), and under the close tutoring of Denise Ham (UK) HonARAM, ARCM, GTCL, LTCL, Director of London Conducting Academy.
Thanks to her participation for two years as soprano in the Choir of the National Symphony Orchestra of Chile, she had collaborated and been part of high level classical concerts with conductors such as Leonid Grin, François López-Ferrer, Ligia Amado, Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Aldo Sisillo, David del Pino, Alejandra Urrutia, Juan Pablo Izquierdo and many other prestigious artists in Latin America.
She has been assistant conductor of the Red de las Artes Orchestra, Sierra de Madrid youth Orchestra, Inspirations symphonic band, Youth Orchestra of Buin, Guitar Orchestra of ISUCH and Il Telescopio Di Galileo Early Music Orchestra.
From 2016 to 2019 she was the chief conductor of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Curacaví and the Presbyterian Choir of San Esteban, developing repertoire of sacred music and fusion Latin American music. Currently she is the associate conductor from Sierra de Madrid youth Orchestra.
