The work with Chilean Youth Orchestras was born as a space to contribute to the development of children at risk, and it has been seen as a point of low quality and expectations, despite their talent and potential. From her experience as Chief Conductor at the Youth Orchestra of Curacavi to her actual role as assistant Conductor at Youth Orchestra de la Sierra of Madrid, Alfonsina had lived how a competent and professional Conductor can inspire and develop complex, vary, and interesting repertoire, raising the community's interest in classical music and bringing the Orchestra to a higher quality level.
In the last few years, there is a rise in Orchestral Conductors in Chile that seek further development in their careers. In this sense, the Youth Orchestras have been an opening window to show their work, acquire new skills, and gain experience before jumping to a professional Orchestra. On the other hand, this has elevated the level of the Youth Orchestras. Furthermore, since they are public initiatives, they are usually free to the public, gaining a lot of exposure and high impact.
